What to say...when I was asked if I would read this and give an honest review I said sure. I had just finished a book and couldn't pick what to start next (yes I am like many of you I have probably thousands of books on my TBR list) but I didn't have to decide since it was decided for me. It always makes things easier for me when I just finish a book and can't decide what to start next just to have an author ask me to review their book. I said sure and jumped right in.This is the very first book that I have read that has the majority of the cast characters African-American. I loved the urban feel to the story. It was something I could relate to as well as enjoy!
I grew up in the "ghetto" of my town. The majority of the people who lived in my apartment complex were African-American. So when reading this I found myself laughing at so many different things. How real it felt, and how true to form she made these characters. There is so much to love about this book.
It starts off by telling you about Rayna's homelife when she is in her senior year of school. We see how bad she just wants out of the projects. The author doesn't spend a lot of time with her there in the projects but I know I want her out so bad!
She gets out and is bettering herself, goes to college and wants more than what she had back in the projects. Her best friend Michelle is the best thing for her. She is there for her and also does everything she can to help her in anyway possible. She gets a job working with Michelle. Well not really 'with' her but more as an assistant out in California at the physical therapist's office Michelle works at.
She meets Azmir, I actually love the moment of recognition! :) Things with them spark they both feel it and she is hesitant and totally understandable. He is the wealthy man who is very attractive and women throw themselves at him often. She is tired of games and men tellin lies. We don't find out exactly who and what Azmir is all about till later in the book. We also get to watch him try to woo her.
I have seen someone rate this story as Fifty meets Gideon with Thug Life mixed in.
I have to agree. BUT if you are looking for the kinky sex, that is not in here, we do get sex, good sex but not the kinky bdsm kinda sex.
The Christian and Gideon analogy for me would be more for the wealth, broken past, possessiveness, and dominating personality. I just wanted to clear that up before anyone jumps into this expecting something they may not feel they received when they finish.
I loved this and maybe I liked it more than some because I could relate on different levels. Growing up in the 'ghetto' I had to keep a certain way about me to deal with the other females as well as the guys. I had to stand strong and not ever take crap from people. If you did just lay down and let people walk all over you, well you were done for. So I could connect with Rayna on that level.
This story kept my attention and made me want more. I was left wanting to know what is going to happen and when the truth about everything would surface. I will be reading this entire series and looking forward to the next book to come out.
I know some people will find the words she used for some body parts funny but well it wasn't so over the top that I had to put it down. "pearl, love canal, strongman..." lol I have read worse words used.

I won this book in a contest giveaway and judging from the synopsis I knew this would be a good read.
Rayna, the main character, grew up in projects of an inner-city. Her father abandoned her, her two siblings, and her mother who turned to crack. Needless to say, Rayna's life was not so good growing up in the "hood". Although she was a good student in school and played a sport, she met and got involved with a bad boy type named "O". Like many young girls, she was blinded by the fact that he was a bad boy and would continue to see him regardless of what he did. Then tragedy struck while she was away visiting a college. She realized after returning home to the mess that she had to get out and start a new life even if it meant leaving her loved ones behind. "O" although he was not a part of what she had dreamt anymore gave her another reason and the means (indirectly) to get away. Her new life would mean lots of changes about herself would have to take place...she had to learn how to adjust to her new surroundings.
Rayna made her move, started college and began to start her new life. Michelle, the girl she met on her first visit to the college would become her best friend. I have to admit there was a part in the story, where Rayna was going to fight what was supposed to be her best friend Michelle's fight that gave me a good chuckle... I just couldn't picture that whole scene going down like that (you'll have to read what I'm referring to in chp 2).
After graduating college, Rayna would further her life changes by making another move to California with her best friend Michelle. She would further her education and be at the top of her class by graduation (good look for a girl coming from the projects). She got a good job and through the midst of it all met the character Azmir. Azmir is a handsome businessman, professionally and streetwise, who is also making some life changes, and it seems Rayna will be included.
Overall, although to me this was a slow-paced read that eventually caught me by the end, it was a good read... Now it's on to the sequel "Love Unexpected" to see how Rayna and Azmir's relationship turns out.

Love Lost is the first book that I have read by Love Belvin and it definitely will not be the last . Love Lost grabbed me from page one and did not turn me loose. I could not put this book down because it was written in a way that you wanted to know what was going to happen next with the main characters Azmir and Rayna.
Love Lost has a urban feel to it with a great storyline and Character. Rayna and Azmir really pulls you the reader into their world wind love affair of Rayna Azmir ,Azmir definitely had a swagger that separates him from the little boys trying to play in the grown man league to the grown man that the world at his finger tips. The twist in this book were well executed because you never seen some of the things that happen coming. I totally felt like I was a part of the book and I was right there with the character watching this love affair play out.
Rayna was a girl from the hood that has had her share of hurt, pain and deceit. Rayna was so closed off because of way other man have treated her in life that when Azmir Jacobs comes along she does not know how to accept a man of his caliber. To the point their love affair takes you on a ride of emotions highs, lows, frustration laughter and more.
The eroticism is this book was so well written and tasteful; it was a great add to all the suspense, action and more that this book had from page one. This book left me with my wide open and the cliffhanger was so well written that it pulls you into book 2 Love Unexpected right away.
In conclusion, this was a great unpredictable love story that was full of suspense, action, and more. with a urban twist....
